As previously reported, French fans have been earning the attention of the Korean media for their knowledge and interest in the Hallyu wave.
Recently, Daily News caught up with a few of the members from the French Hallyu fanclub, “Korean Connection“, during their visit to Korea. Most of the members knew a slew of Korean idol names that they easily listed once asked.
Sha (22) first became a fan of Korean culture through the drama, “Autumn Fairytale“, nearly 10 years ago. Since then, she’s been a fan of actor Song Seung Hun. With 54 other members from Korean Connection, she and the fanclub used their Easter holiday to visit the ‘home country of Hallyu’.
The fanclub arrived on April 9th, and although they’re staying for two whole weeks, they were quick to claim that it wasn’t enough. They’ve already been to the recording hall for KBS’s “Music Bank“, as well as to the rehearsal set for MBC’s “Show! Music Core“. Some were even guests on a radio program.
But that’s not all. On the 20th, they’ll be visiting the SM Entertainment building to meet up with the members of SHINee themselves.
Undoubtedly, the highlight for many will be that fan-meeting with the SHINee boys, but for some, the best part of the break was in their visit to “Music Bank”. Since they’re ’special guests’, a camera crew followed them around since the early morning. While on the set, the French fans showed that there were no cultural barriers when it came to music, as they fit right in with the Korean fans.
One fan (30) revealed that she first fell in love with K-Pop when she listened to Park Ji Yoon’s “Adult Ceremony” at a Chinatown back home. “Before, there were a lot of Chinese and Japanese music and dramas, but the Korean corner is getting a lot bigger now.”
Aisha (20), who’s an avid fan of “Secret Garden“, added that dramas are uploaded with full subs in a variety of different languages just a day after its original broadcast.
Caroline (35) stated, “France is the country in Europe with the biggest interest in the Hallyu wave. Our interest in K-Pop will definitely expand into a general love for all of Korean culture.”

Korean Connection concluded, “Working with the Korea Tourism Organization, we planned this trip to Korea for the members that have yet to visit. Through this visit, we hope that the music agencies of Korea will take a bigger interest in Europe.”
